Ministries: Outreach

University Christian Church has a long-standing commitment to local, national, and international outreach. Three out of every ten dollars received by cUc are designated for those in need. cUc gave over $119,000 to outreach causes in 2003 alone. Local community outreach is exemplified daily by the intensive use of the church building and grounds, and by member involvement in many programs, including:

Bridge of Hope Ministry. Becoming the first Bridge of Hope congregation in Maryland, helping to end homelessness, one single mother and family at a time. Recruitment of a family and fundraising continues.

Community Place Cafe. Provides free lunch to those in need, plus other services (cUc participates on the fourth Monday of each month). Served at First United Methodist Church, located at the corner of Adelphi Road & East-West Highway.

Feed the Kids. A food distribution project working in partnership with the Teen Parent and Headstart programs at Northwestern High School and SHARE Food Network, Feed the Kids distributes bags of fresh groceries with creative recipe ideas each month. Anyone in the community can order a package of food and pick it up from the church. Contact us for more information.

Help By Phone. An ecumenical crises program serving the area through food pantries, clothes closet, and more.

Mission Trips. Church members are heavily involved in mission trips. Past trips have included Nicaragua, Appalachia, inner-city Baltimore, Philadelphia, North Carolina, New Orleans, and Jamaica.

PG Plaza Day Center. The Day Center is the first homeless drop-in center in Prince George’s County where homeless neighbors (and anyone in need) can take advantage of a shower, laundry, small pantry, charging stations, and computer access in a safe, welcoming environment. The Day Center is hosted at University Christian Church on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1-6pm. Find out how you can volunteer or your church or organization can help at

Safe Haven and Warm Nights. Rotating shelters for homeless men, women, and children during the winter months at cUc, as well as other local churches.

Trunk Or Treat Carnival. New and fun neighborhood community event as a safe alternative to trick or treating. We welcomed over 100+ neighbors in 2013. This event and our Easter Egg hunt remain vital outreach opportunities for our congregation.

United Campus Ministry. This ecumenical ministry for students and others at the University of Maryland has our long-standing support and leadership. Read more at

12-Step Groups. Additionally, cUc hosts two twelve-step groups.
